April 10 – Open Day at ICB Cluj during the Green Week
Following the collaboration agreement concluded between ICB Cluj and the “Avram Iancu” Secondary School from Beliș (CJ), with the aim of developing educational activities with secondary school students regarding environmental pollution, climate change and environmental protection, on April 10, 2023, the school students, accompanied by five teachers, participated in the Open Day at the institute’s headquarters. The implementation of these activities is part of the National Strategy for Environmental Education and Climate Change.
The 32 students who participated in the interactive activities coordinated by ICB Cluj researchers were presented with aspects related to:
Air pollution resulting from vegetation and waste burning, as well as the effect of climate change and land changes on atmospheric and ground temperature;
The role of plant and tree respiration in ensuring air quality and human quality of life;
Changing misconceptions and phobias about some animals;
The role of in vitro cultures and seed banks in saving endangered species;
The role of algae in generating atmospheric oxygen, as well as their diversity in aquatic ecosystems. The activities focused on practical aspects related to awareness of the effect of climate change on the environment and human life, as well as the role of biodiversity or human interaction with the environment.
No less than 15 employees of the institute (Ana Coste, Maria Nicoară, Alexandra Mortu, Anamaria Roman, Adela Halmagyi, Ioana Roman, Dana Șuteu, Gabriela Tanțău, Bogdan Drugă, Ursu Tudor, Marcel Ciobanu, Adrian Ruicănescu, Dănuț Andreica, Paul Szatmari, Hurdu Bogdan-Iuliu) were involved in organizing this event, which lasted 5 hours, of which 7 of them directly participated in the educational activities with the students: Ana Coste, Maria Nicoară, Alexandra Mortu, Anamaria Roman, Dana Șuteu, Bogdan Drugă, Ursu Tudor.
