Valorization of data obtained through molecular techniques in fields such as: pharmaceutical industry, agriculture and environmental protection
Summary:
The offer aims at ways of collaboration with economic agents in the pharmaceutical industry, agriculture
as well as with agents involved in environmental management and protection, by providing modern molecular analyses with the aim of obtaining bioactive products that can be exploited on the market, as well as providing data necessary for bio-conservation and protected area management studies.
Objectives pursued:
(i) Studying the biodiversity of some important taxa in the pharmaceutical industry using SSR and SNP molecular markers, by classical sequencing (Sanger) or “Next Gen Sequencing”.
(ii) Analysis of the gene pool of some medicinal plants characteristic of our country in order to identify
new genes, which are the basis for the production of biologically active principles, already known in these
taxa, in order to increase their productivity in biomass and active biological products.
(iii) Carrying out the molecular characterization of the local and national germplasm of some cereal species.
(iv) Molecular characterization of Carpathian endemisms in order to explain their uniqueness at the genetic level.
(v) Study of the effect of population size and protected area management on the genetic diversity and population structure of endemic or rare plant species, in conjunction with the analysis of their speciation pathways in the Romanian Carpathians, based on the establishment of molecular phylogenetic relationships.
(vi) Carrying out collaborative research and development projects.
Offer description
ICB Cluj dept. B.E.&B.Ch. has experience in performing molecular analyses involving plant material, both fresh and preserved. Following the processing of plant material by molecular methods, an important amount of molecular data results, data that can ultimately lead to the obtaining of taxa richer in bioactive products, valuable agricultural hybrids or better documented environmental bioconservation plans from a molecular point of view.
