As a senior researcher, I am deeply fascinated by the diverse ways in which life manifests itself in the intricate world of microscopic photosynthetic microorganisms (phytoplankton).

My work explores the complexity of phytoplankton species spanning from morphology, ecology, plasticity and phylogeny. The topics I`m interested in are: 
  • The integration of species concepts for unicellular photosynthetic eukaryotes, a hotly disputed topic because to their vast diversity, complex life cycles, and limits of traditional species conceptions.
 
  • Photosynthetic microorganisms as cell factories for secondary metabolites production.
 
  • Diversity of photosynthetic microorganisms from Romanian freshwaters.
