- I contribute to the developing of the systems perspective for ecology and conservation biology.
- I develop novel methods for network analysis, quantifying the local and global properties of ecological networks.
- Based on real databases (trophic interactions, traits), I am interested in the ecological conceptualization of “species importance” and study the biology and systemic role of keystone species.
- The major current interest is the experimental testing of the network approach.
- PredAqua (2024–2026): studying the predictive capabilities of a range of food web models, tested on mesocosm food web experiments.
- AtlantECO (2020–2025): a large-scale, multidisciplinary analysis of the planktonic ecosystems inhabiting the Atlantic ocean.
